National Academies launches national committee, website to support UN Ocean Decade

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are pleased to introduce the U.S. National Committee for the Ocean Decade. Comprised of the experts who regularly advise the National Academies’ Ocean Studies Board and joined by experts who advise the National Academies’ Science and Technology for Sustainability Roundtable, Marine Board, and Gulf Research Program, the committee will serve as the voice of the U.S. scientific community during the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, which will run from 2021 to 2030. Dr. Ram Mohan, internationally recognized expert in coastal, dredging and environmental engineering and TRB Marine Board member, is also a member of the U.S. National Committee.

U.S. organizations participating in the Decade are encouraged to connect with the national committee and join the Ocean Decade U.S. Nexus through a new website, “Ocean Decade U.S.” The U.S. National Committee is also seeking early career professionals to serve as liaisons to the committee and provide a voice for the next generation of ocean scientists. Meet the U.S. National Committee online and help define the goals for ocean science in the next decade.
