    Freight costs down, accessorial and fuel surcharges rise in December

    Canadian shippers paid marginally less for ground transportation in December, down 0.44% compared to November, according to the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI). The Base Rate Index, excluding accessorial charges, dropped 1.14% month over month. Average fuel surcharges accounted for a larger share of rates.     Autocar delivers first DC-64D dump truck to Canada

    LMA LaPointe Construction in Quebec has taken delivery of the first Autocar DC-64D dump truck to hit – or haul – Canadian soil. The truck features a SPIF-compliant 20k Simard twin steer suspension. The cab is created from steel and reinforced with aluminum corner castings, Autocar says.     XTL Group to open new warehouse in Delta

    The XTL Group is opening a new 111,000 sq.-ft. warehouse and distribution center in Delta, B.C. The new facility will open March 1, and is minutes from the South Fraser Perimeter Road, the company says. The facility is located at 7990 Hoskins Street, which XTL says is easily accessible from Hwys. 91 and 99 via River Road, with downtown Vancouver about 40 minutes away.     A more focused Nikola Corporation is moving forward with plans to bring the Tre cabover battery-electric truck to the North America, to be followed by fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).     Brake-related problems continue to dominate violations during roadside inspection blitzes. They accounted for 32% of the vehicle violations recorded during the most recent Roadcheck inspection blitz alone. Some of the tickets are easy to understand.
